Simon has always enjoyed drawing and painting portraits since he was a child, and it was a natural progression to pursue a career in portraiture. However, it was his enthusiasm for motor racing which would be the unlikely catalyst which set him on the road to become a portrait specialist.
He was educated at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe, attended the London College of Printing for a Foundation Course in Art & Design, and read Engineering at Southampton University. After a career in sales marketing he became a freelance artist in 1993 specialising in producing portraits of Formula 1 drivers obtaining private commissions from those involved in the sport, and fans alike (click here for more info).
Simon works in a wide variety of media including pencil, watercolour, acrylic, gouache, and oil adapting his technique to suit the subject. He paints both traditional formal portraits and informal studies too. He has become skilled and adept at capturing not only the likeness, but the character and essence of the subject.
Aside from his artwork, Simon is a guitarist playing contemporary acoustic and electric styles in a variety of settings, as well as finding the time to teach a small number of students (click here for info).
